Model Interviews

Nick Hussein

Nick began modeling when “I was scouted a few times while working out at Santa Monica Beach but never gave modeling any serious consideration. Eventually, On Display Men found my workout picture on an online profile, contacted me and I decided to try it out.” Since then he has shot for “just a few local photographers in Los Angeles; no ads.” But when he looks to his future as a model, “I am most interested in being a fitness model, and my goal is to be in Men’s Health Magazine.”

To be a successful model you need “hard work. Just like everything else in life, you need to work hard to get what you really want and never give up.” As for rejection, “I don’t take it personally. If I don’t get accepted for a gig, it’s because I am not the type they’re looking for.” He is unique as a model because of “two things: 1. Although I came from an underprivileged family halfway around the world, I studied really hard growing up and eventually tested among the top 2% of my country academically and got awarded a full scholarship to an engineering school in Los Angeles. I moved there by myself when I was 19 without knowing anyone. 2. Being a bookworm growing up, I didn’t play sports or work out at all. My freshman year in college, I weighed only 105lbs. I decided to change my appearance sophomore year, started working out and since then have gained 60lbs of lean muscle mass. I am no longer the same person, physically or mentally.”

Nick’s goal in life is to “Travel around the world, meet individuals from all over and learn their customs and traditions. With that, I hope to grow and become a better person.” When it comes to achieving his goals, “I am an overachiever. I always aim high even for the smaller things in life. I am never satisfied with what I achieve because I always want more. I’ve been known to be too hard on myself but that has helped me to be where I am today. I believe in Dream Big or Go Home.” He looks up to “Barack Obama. He is a minority from an underprivileged background, but that didn’t stop him from being the most powerful man in America. I respect him a lot because everything he’s accomplished has been by hard work and determination.”

When it comes to sports, “I do not play any sports as I didn’t grow up playing any (I was a bookworm) although I am an outdoor guy now. Because I went to a legendary football college, it only makes sense that I like watching football.” He stays in shape by “working out 6-7 days a week by doing different types of weight training and cardio. Also, I train in Muay Thai. I do watch what I eat, although I eat a lot, I make sure that my food is as natural as can be.” He would also admit that he can’t live without the “gym, as it is my therapy. I reflect on my life a lot while waiting in between sets and that helps me to become a better man.”

First impressions of Nick are usually that “I am older and mature because I’m usually kind of quiet at first.” But to his friends he is “reliable, someone they can depend on. I am the type of person that would help a new friend moving into a new apartment and such.” And when he’s hanging out with his friends, “nothing is more fun than having a barbeque in my backyard and just hanging out with my buddies watching sports or playing Wii.”

When he’s not modeling, “I’m an engineer so I like to fix things and create projects for fun. I am very good at building and fixing things around the house, from custom furniture to fences. Just about a year ago, I put in a sprinkler system for my backyard, while redoing the whole lawn and putting in new sod.” To relax, “I like to read books, watch TV and play with my pets.” As for his dream vacation, “I’d be very interested in going to Venice. It is an old city that is rich with arts and culture, and I love Italian food.”
