Alex Lago always knew he wanted to be a model or an actor, but he was once afflicted with a painful shyness. I would wager, however, that Alex’s shyness is now ancient history since he’s more than willing to share any aspect of his life.
“When I was in grade school, I would always mess around and pose and act out action scenes at recess. Then I found out that what I was doing was modeling. My girlfriend’s hairdresser had just started taking pictures of models, so I did a session with him and posted the pictures on Model Mayhem. Everything went from there.”

Recently, Alex completed a photo shoot in LA. “I modeled in Malibu for a fashion designer who had me wear a sparkly, sequined Speedo and some kind of crazy shirt. I have fun no matter what I’m wearing. If it’s something ridiculously embarrassing, I’ll turn it into something fun.”
For Alex, turning an embarrassing outfit into something fun could very easily mean just removing the offending article of clothing. In fact, I’ve been working for On Display Men for over a year, and Alex is the first and only model to inform me that he was conducting our interview in the buff. “I’m most comfortable in my birthday suit,” Alex explained. “I’m always happiest when I wear that.”
During our interview, Alex related a bit about his high school experience. “Up until my junior year of high school, I was extremely off. I’d do weird things with my hair, dye it crazy colors, and I went through about thirty different clothing styles. I’ve been made fun of. I put an “Honesty Box” on my social networking site – a tool that allows people to leave anonymous feedback – and I’d usually get about 3 messages a week making fun of me. I think it’s hilarious when people make fun of me, but it also bothers me because they don’t know anything about me.”

Alex credits two people as being his main sources of inspiration: his girlfriend, Marissa, and his dad. “I had an epiphany that success is really all about relationships that really matter to you. I like to make everyone happy – especially my dad. He doesn’t believe in modeling, but I want to show him that I can make it work by putting my mind to it. Marissa and I have the best connection in the world. We know marriage is going to happen for us, but we want to wait until we’re financially secure.”
